The Hollywood Stars "Starstruck" LP (white vinyl)
Impresario and well-known Hollywood figure Kim Fowley brought the original Hollywood Stars together in 1973 to create L.A.'s answer to the New York Dolls. The lineup was Mark Anthony (guitar and vocals), Ruben de Fuentes (lead guitar), Scott Phares (vocals), Terry Rae (drums and vocals), and Gary van Dyke (bass) Although they recorded an album for Columbia Records , it didn't see the light of day until 2013. However, Fowley got two of the songs covered by major artists: “Escape” was covered by Alice Cooper on the “Welcome to my Nightmare” LP, and “King of the Nighttime World” was covered by Kiss on their “Destroyer” LP.
Later, Mark, Ruben, and Terry reformed the band with two new members: Bobby Dryer (drums) and Michael Rummans (bass and vocals). They recorded a radio-friendly LP for Arista which was released in 1977 and sank without a trace.
Fast-forward to 2023: the band reforms again, adding George Keller (The Sloths) and Jeff Jourard (The Motels, Tom Petty) and recording 13 glammy, power-pop tracks for their first studio LP since 1977 - "Starstruck".
